Our Story

Built on tradition, designed with care

Rooted in the heart of the historic city of Patan, our home is a reflection of our Newari heritage and the living spirit of this ancient city.

Traditional Newa brick courtyard

As descendants of one of Patan’s original families, we created these spaces not simply as accommodations, but as quiet tributes to the culture and values that shaped us.

Newa: Suites is cared for by the Shakya family, sisters at the forefront, guided by parents who remain the steady roots of the home. Our family has lived in Patan for generations, and our connection to this city is deeply woven into who we are.

With the support of a small, dedicated team and trusted local artisans, our approach to hospitality is personal, thoughtful and grounded in respect for craft, architecture and spirituality.

We created Newa: Suites with one simple intention: to offer our guests an authentic experience of Patan, shared by those who have always called it home.

Material

Things made to age well.

Wood from the hills around Kathmandu. Dachi appa bricks from Bhaktapur. Dhaka woven on small looms. Paint color mixed by hand. Brass from old workshops in Patan Durbar Square.

Each material was chosen for how it changes — not how it stays the same. The house will look softer, warmer, more inhabited every year.

Philosophy

Newa soul. spiritually aligned.

Newa craft

Centuries of woodcarving, brickwork, and courtyard architecture — kept honest, never decorative.

Quiet luxury

Rich, considered, but quiet. Every space is treated as a hero in itself.

Slow hospitality

Small, attentive, personal. We answer guests ourselves, and we keep the team small for a reason.

A long horizon

We build for generations — in materials, in service, in friendships with our artisans.
